On the South Western corner of the Lincolnshire Wolds,
can be found the Hemingby Pedigree cattle unit. The original Pedigree
Lincoln Red herd was founded
by the late Frank Read at Brook House in 1942, and at present numbers
some 70 cows.
A small crossbred herd of British Blue x, and Limousin x Lincoln Reds is kept for crossing with a British Blue bull to breed Christmas show cattle. The cattle have been managed for 49 years by the founder's son Michael Read, and considerable success has been achieved over the years at all the major shows and bull fairs. |
| The Reserve Champion Rib of Beef from the Royal Smithfield show, 2006, bred and fed at Hemingby. The heifer that produced this rib was 20 months old, out of the pedigree Lincoln Red cow, Hemingby Treasure D.108, and by the Belgian Blue bull Vigor Van Daisel. The rib was sold to benefit the Lincolnshire Rural Stress Network, making £170.
